That distinction matters.
Health insurance, life insurance, Medicare, and annuities are all insurance products, but they do not solve the same problem. Choosing correctly starts with identifying the risk that could cause the financial loss, then matching that risk with the right type of protection.
Financial Bloc helps individuals, families, self-employed professionals, and small business owners in Boca Raton and throughout Palm Beach County understand those differences before choosing a product.
Insurance is often discussed as though it were one category. It is not.
A serious illness creates one kind of financial risk. Losing a family income because someone dies creates another. Retirement brings different concerns, including healthcare expenses, market losses, and the possibility of living longer than your money.
Each risk requires a different conversation.
I have worked in insurance and financial strategy since 2007. I do not begin with a product and look for a reason to recommend it. I begin by identifying the financial risk you are trying to address, then determine which type of insurance is designed for that risk.
Health insurance helps pay for covered medical care, including doctor visits, hospital treatment, prescriptions, testing, and other healthcare services.
For self-employed professionals and small business owners without employer coverage, the decision involves more than comparing monthly premiums. Deductibles, provider networks, prescription coverage, maximum out-of-pocket costs, and eligibility for available plans all affect what the coverage will actually cost and how it will work when care is needed.
Marketplace Open Enrollment generally runs from November 1 through January 15 each year. Enrollments completed by December 15 generally begin January 1, while enrollments completed after December 15 generally begin February 1. Outside Open Enrollment, you may still qualify to enroll after certain life events, such as losing other health coverage, moving, getting married, or having a baby.
Life insurance can provide money to a spouse, children, business, or other beneficiary after the insured person dies. The purpose is to replace income, pay debts, protect a business, or provide financial support to the people who would be affected by that loss.
Certain policies also include living-benefit provisions. Depending on the policy, these provisions may allow part of the death benefit to be accessed during the insured person’s lifetime after a qualifying critical, chronic, or terminal illness.
Medicare provides health coverage primarily for people age 65 and older, as well as certain younger individuals who qualify.
I help Boca Raton and Palm Beach County residents understand how Original Medicare, Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplement insurance, and prescription-drug coverage differ. The decision affects which doctors you can see, whether a provider network applies, whether prior authorization may be required, and how much you may pay through premiums, deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance.
Medicare’s Annual Enrollment Period runs from October 15 through December 7.
That depends on the financial risk you are trying to address.
Health insurance protects against medical expenses. Life insurance protects your family or business from financial loss if you die and may include benefits for certain qualifying illnesses while you are alive.
The first step is identifying the risk before comparing products.
Some life insurance policies include living benefits. These provisions may allow you to access part of the policy’s death benefit after a qualifying critical, chronic, or terminal illness.
The qualifying conditions, available amount, limitations, and effect on the remaining death benefit depend on the specific policy.
Medicare Advantage plans provide your Medicare benefits through a private insurance company. Most plans use provider networks, and the insurance company may require prior authorization before it covers certain medical services, treatments, or supplies.
Medicare Supplement insurance works alongside Original Medicare. It does not use a separate insurance-company provider network, so you can generally receive care from any provider in the United States who accepts Medicare. Medicare Supplement helps pay certain deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance that Original Medicare does not pay.
These are two different ways of receiving Medicare coverage. You cannot be enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan and use a Medicare Supplement policy at the same time.
